Peel the Limelight responds to #MeToo and #TimesUp movements with premiere of all-female production opening on March 8th International Women’s Day #PressforProgress
Our 2018 season premiere and inaugural production in the brand new Peel the Limelight Studio will be the Broadway hit “Agnes of God” by John Pielmeier.
The production will open on International Women's Day March 8th. In our current world, where the moral compass is constantly brought into question, the campaigns #MeToo and #TimesUp have thrown light on harassment and abuse, and give the people affected a voice. "Agnes of God" tells just such a story from the shadows.
Agnes, a young novitiate in a cloistered convent, gives birth to a child with no recollection of the event. Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court appointed Psychiatrist, is charged with evaluating her mental state, whilst Mother Miriam Ruth has been charged by God to protect her. Saints and sinners, medicine and miracles – it is the conflict between science and religion, the temporal and spiritual, and ultimately between facts and faith.
Directed by Peter O’Neill, the production features Claire Stanley, winner of Best Female Artist at the Bangkok Theatre Festival 2017 for "Spoonface Steinberg”, Heen Sasithorn, nominee for Best Actress at the Thailand National Film Association Awards for "The Island Funeral", and Siree Riewpaiboon, nominee for Best Female Artist at the Bangkok Theatre Festival 2015 for her performance as "Julia Pastrana".
